By studying the activity of wildlife and even domestic animals prior to storms, we may be able to not only discover other ways to potentially predict immediate weather issues but also help increase warning times for people to seek safe shelter!

Many of our staff and volunteers are Trained Storm Spotters. Spotters are trained each Spring by the local National Weather Service office through the Skywarn Program.
Spotters help confirm conditions on the ground that can lead to increased warning times and more immediate information about the way the environment is acting in a specific area. This program has not only helped with the increased knowledge of storm occurances but also has helped save millions of lives.
Other services are also available, including the Spotter Network.
We are an official Weather Ready Nation Ambassador. This is a recent action that happened in April. To find out more about this program, visit the website by clicking the button below!
Our continued efforts to study weather and animals will help us better engineer structures in our Wildlife Center to protect our collection from dangerous weather conditions while protecting our staff and visitors.
We are also hoping to take our knowledge and use it in helping construct shelters for wildlife in restored areas that will be able to act as shelter until these areas are completely wild. This process can take years, so giving wildlife a place to hide is extremely important!
Our programs are constantly evolving and will always be changing to meet the needs of wildlife and people.
Donations help us continue to fund this research and our mission of conserving wildlife and wild places for the future of not only those species but also people. Consider donating today to help us make a difference!
